Community Partner Manager

Full time, permanent

Starting Wage: $32/hour

Job Overview:
We are seeking a Manager for our Community Partner department. There are 2 streams of getting food from Loaves & Fishes; one is direct to clients through our Free Food Markets. The other is free food to our Community Partners (other non-profit groups, food banks, school groups, meal programs, church groups, etc.) The Community Partner Manager helps fight hunger on Vancouver Island by managing the daily and weekly operations related to the Loaves & Fishes Community Partner Department, ensuring that charitable organizations on Vancouver Island have the food they need to thrive.

a. Supervise and manage the activities of the community partner staff and volunteers, ensuring daily tasks are completed in a timely and organized manner.

b. Oversee and manage relationships with the Loaves & Fishes Community Partner network, ensuring policies, procedures, and changes are communicated when necessary.

c. Coordinate and manage the Food Banks BC National Food Sharing System (NFSS) including 24 other food banks, ensuring timely communication and coordination of food pickup and delivery logistics.

d. Train and develop team members (staff & volunteer) on proper Community Partner procedures, safety protocols, and company policies.

e. Resolve any issues or conflicts that arise with Community Partners and address the issue in a timely and respectful manner, ensuring the integrity and dignity of all parties involved.

f. Resolve any issues or conflicts that arise within the team and address performance issues concerns through coaching and mentoring.

g. Oversee and manage the building, weighing, documenting, and delivery of food donations to Community Partners, ensuring it is completed in a proper and timely manner.

h. Oversee and manage online ordering system including listing of products, inventory management, and completion of orders.

i. Prepare, update, and communicate trip details for truck runs containing Community Partner deliveries

j. Ensuring the Community Partner sections are maintained in a clean, organized fashion and stocked with the supplies necessary for others to do their jobs.

k. Ensuring our systems for organizing and rotating stock are monitored, implemented, and optimized to maximize freshness and minimize waste.

l. Identify areas for process improvement and implement efficient warehouse practices to enhance productivity and cost savings in a safe, efficient, and effective manner.

m. Participating in weekly meetings with the Director of Operations and weekly meetings with the management team.

n. Other duties as required.

Required skills:

· Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively communicate with team members, volunteers and community partners and members of the public.

· Strong interpersonal and people management skills, and an ability to give and receive direction in a positive manner with a diversity of individuals, including other staff, agencies, volunteers, donors and clients.

· Excellent administrative and computer skills, including abilities with detailed data entry, spreadsheet management, and the ability to learn computer systems quickly.

· Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities and demands.

· Ability to work well under pressure and handle stressful situations with composure.

· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, yet able to work well with the Director of Operations and executive leadership team.

· Problem-solving skills to identify and address issues in warehouse operations and implement efficient solutions.

· Practices and models creativity, problem-solving and system improvements with other staff, including use of the Kata Process.

· Lifting and maneuvering heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and the ability to remain on your feet for most of your shift.

· Ability to drive 3-ton and 5-ton trucks or willingness to learn and be trained.

· Ability to operate manual and electric pallet jacks.

· Ability to operate a forklift (you will be trained on the forklift by one of our staff and given an opportunity to obtain your forklift ticket if you don’t already have one).

· Basic understanding of CRA processes related to charities – preferred

· Post-secondary education – preferred

· Valid first aid certification – preferred

· Valid drivers license

After successful completion of 3 month probation period this position comes with a benefits package.

Job 2 of 2 - Port Hardy

Warehouse Crew and Thrift Store Attendant

Full time, permanent

Starting Wage: $23.00/hour

Loaves & Fishes Port Hardy Harvest Food Bank is responsible for getting food to those who need it on the North Island. Our building on Market street in Port Hardy is the hub of our operations. We Are seeking a full-time employee to work in warehouse and thrift store, and drive our vehicles to pick up and deliver food. 

Duties include:

1. Driving truck for picking up food from Save on Foods, IGA and Island Foods

2. Unloading trucks and moving food around on pallet jacks

3. Weighing food donations and lifting boxes of food (This is a physical job. Must be able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly)

4. Washing dirty bins

5. Sorting food (including separating good food from rotten food)

6. Sorting thrift store donations and re stocking thrift store shelves

7. Operating the thrift store cash register

NOTE - air brake endorsement is not required. All you need to drive our vehicles is a class 5 drivers license. 

Full availability is a MUST. The right candidate will regularly work 5 days a week, 8am-4pm, and will include weekends. 

Being familiar with the operation of a 1ton truck, pallet jacks and forklifts are all assets - but not required. We can teach all the necessary skills. 

The right candidate needs to be punctual, have a positive attitude, and be prepared to integrate into a small team environment. 


Job 3 of 3 - Volunteer Position - Nanaimo

Volunteer Position for Community Partner Shopping 
Community Partner Volunteer 
Position Description: 
This position is crucial for our Community Partners that come and shop at our warehouse. The Community Partner volunteer is responsible for: 
- stocking, maintaining, and general cleanliness of the Community Partner food sections (quality and date checking) 
- managing Community Partners including:  
- welcoming and supervising Community Partners shopping in a friendly manner 
- providing updates and/or walk throughs as needed 
- ensuring partners stay within the time permitted to shop 
- weighing food and entering it into a Microsoft form 
- if/when there are no appointments booked, supporting other areas of the warehouse (i.e., sorting food, washing bins, etc). Being adaptable is important. 
The Community Partner volunteer will work alongside a Community Partner staff to make sure that online orders are coordinated with the Community Partner Volunteer and received by the appropriate Community Partner.  

Position Requirements: 
- Ability to communicate respectfully and clearly with staff and Community Partners 
- Ability to use and navigate computers with ease 
- Friendly and outgoing personality 
- Ability to lift 30-50 lbs  
- Ability to manage time well
